Peter Jordan Pete has spent most of his working life as a Chartered Accountant, but his association with the passenger road transport industry started in 1968 with a summer student job as a bus conductor for Maidstone Corporation. The following summer, he passed the PSV driving test, and spent the summer driving coaches for Sheffield United Tours. Since then, he has always had a part time job for one (and usually more) of the local bus companies. His other transport passion is narrow gauge railways, and he discovered the comfort of Routemasters fifteen years ago driving one of Stagecoach Bromley’s RMs on a Ffestiniog Railway Gala ‘rail replacement service’ between Porthmadog and Caernarfon. Since then, he has always admired the Routemaster, and the opportunity to buy one arose in late 2008. Since then, a lot of time has been spent in mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment. In addition to running his bus, he also runs tours to India and runs events for railway enthusiasts.
Ken Thompson Ken has spent his life in the Road Transport Industry, and has been Chief Engineer for East Midland Motor Services Ltd and in charge of the Tarmac lorry fleet. More recently, he ran a successful motor repair business in Mattersey. Ten years ago, he acquired a very pretty 1946 East Kent Dennis Lancet express bus and has been running it for weddings – it is extremely well known in the Retford area. Ken is currently Vehicles Manager of Lincoln Bus Museum.
Robin Hawdon Robin started working in the Road Transport industry in 1993 after leaving the Royal Navy, having completed 11 years service in a variety of interesting roles - the last 4 years were served onboard Her Majesty’s Royal Yacht Britannia. He has also been employed in a number of varied positions from HGV class 1 and coach driver to Health and Safety Officer, Transport Manager and General Manager. He is currently the Fleet Engineering Manager for a Lincolnshire coach operator. Robin has had an interest in vintage vehicles and steam engines since he was a young boy. This stemmed from his father’s ownership of a number of vintage vehicles throughout his childhood and has followed his father’s footsteps having owned and restored a number of vintage cars and commercial vehicles himself. It is through these interests that he met Ken Thompson and Pete Jordan and was ‘persuaded’ to join the ranks of Vintage Vehicle Hire. Robin says, "It is lovely to see restored vehicles on display at shows, but it is much better to have them working and see the pleasure they bring to the people who travel onboard them."
